Why Cherwell? We have asked our students over the years
… and here is an abridged list of WHY would you choose Cherwell for your A-Level studies:
Freedom to learn
A freedom to learn the subjects you are most passionate about and being supported by equally passionate tutors who are experts in their field.
To quote some of our alumni:
‘I came here for the small classes; I came here for freedom to learn in a way that I think a lot of larger places won’t allow you to.’ – Max, A-Level graduate
‘I loved that I could work at a pace I’m most comfortable with – especially with Literature, which is a subject I feel most passionate about.’ – Lily, A-Level graduate
‘The College enabled me to learn in a more effective and personal way than perhaps I would have in another school.’ – Camilla, A-Level graduate
We think that’s a good indication what you would be in for academically if you join Cherwell!
As the format of tuition is discussed at an interview stage and determined by each student’s specific needs and their aspirations.
One-to-one and small group classes
We are one of the few colleges in Oxford who preserve the very best the British education system has to offer – the gold standard tutorial.
Our programmes are delivered via a quintessentially Oxbridge tutorial method of teaching (one-to-one, tutorial pairs and small group classes) which help to nurture and develop our students’ potential to the full.
‘In my previous school, I was learning in a class of up to 30 other students but here it is just me and the tutor. I have been able to go at a faster pace and focus on the topics where I am weaker. The teachers are so kind and approachable.’ – Sophie, A-Level graduate
Dedicated UCAS & University application support
Applying the same approach as to the main programme of study, our experienced and dedicated team of academic staff support our students through every aspect of their university applications: from deciding upon the right course and university to preparing for any admission interviews and tests.
Varied extra-curricular programme
Professorial talks and lectures, debate workshops, AI and entrepreneurship bootcamps, volunteering, university visits, student-led clubs and sports to name just a few.
‘I think that’s something that Cherwell has really driven me on this year. Something I wasn’t expecting, you know, in a positive sense.’ – Max, A-Level student (class of 2023)
At Cherwell you will find everything what Oxford has to offer.
5* boarding accommodation & friendly collegial environment
All our boarding students live in comfort of single en-suite rooms at our purpose-built Cherwell House residence. No more homestay or room sharing (!)
‘Overall, my time at Cherwell College was excellent – with great teachers and a very comfortable boarding house to return to each evening. I am now looking forward to going to Imperial College London to study Biomedical Sciences.’ – Sophie, A-Level graduate
‘My first year at Cherwell was also my first year in the UK. I was initially nervous about studying in a new country but the members of staff and my fellow classmates made this transition really easy.’ – Haiqi, A-Level graduate
