Beyond Traditional A-Levels: New Future-Focused Programmes at Cherwell College Oxford

Cherwell College Oxford is proud to unveil two groundbreaking A-Level programmes: “Step Up” and “Enhanced”, designed to prepare students for success in today’s innovation-driven world. These new offerings, available from August/September 2025, go beyond traditional A-Level education by integrating world-class entrepreneurship bootcamps, academic excellence, and hands-on learning.

A New Standard in Sixth Form Education

Unlike standard A-Level courses, which typically focus solely on academic achievement, Cherwell’s new programmes equip students with the skills, mindset and experiences needed to thrive in a fast-paced, competitive world. By combining rigorous academic study with direct exposure to real-world innovation, entrepreneurship training, and global networking opportunities, students graduate not just with qualifications, but with a practical edge, confidence, and clarity about their next steps—whether that’s university, launching a startup, or entering the workforce.

A-Level “Step Up” – One Year of Intense Preparation

The Step Up programme is ideal for 18–19-year-olds who have already completed A-Levels, the IB, or equivalent qualifications but are seeking clarity in their academic or career direction. Also appropriate for First-year undergraduates. This one-year intensive course includes:

  • 3 academic terms (Michaelmas 2025 – Trinity 2026)
  • Core A-Level subjects with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship
  • Two exclusive bootcamps — one at the University of Oxford, the other at UC Berkeley’s Sutardja Centre for Entrepreneurship & Technology (SCET)
  • An optional summer term in California

Step Up is perfect for students who are passionate about technology, startups, and exploring new ways to apply academic knowledge in the real world.

A-Level “Enhanced” – A Two-Year Path to Excellence

The Enhanced programme is tailored for 16–17-year-olds GCSEs or secondary school leavers. Over six academic terms, students will benefit from a rigorous A-Level curriculum, combined with:

  • Practical entrepreneurship modules (including pitching, venture finance, and business models)
  • Two immersive bootcamps in Oxford and California
  • Mentorship by leading industry experts and academic fellows from Oxford and UC Berkeley SCET
  • Opportunities for university admissions, entrepreneurship or entry into the startup ecosystem

This is more than an A-Level course – it’s a launchpad for future leaders.

Real Impact, Real Transformation

Cherwell’s unique offerings have already left a lasting impression on previous participants. One student shared:

“The programme gave me the mindset shift I needed. I came in with an idea and left with a plan and the confidence to pursue it.”

Another remarked:

“It was intense, eye-opening and transformational. I never thought I could be an entrepreneur – now I know I can.”

These student-led reflections highlight the powerful impact of the innovation modules integrated into both Step Up and Enhanced.

Subjects Offered & Entry Requirements

Students can choose from core A-Level subjects such as Mathematics, Economics, Politics, Biology, and more. A minimum B2 English level (CEFR) is required. Applicants should demonstrate a genuine interest in innovation, technology, entrepreneurship, and start-up ecosystems.
