We offer a range of summer courses which are designed to help students prepare for the next stage of their education, whether this means familiarising themselves with the British education system, improving English language proficiency, starting GCSE or A Levels, or preparing to go on to university. Our academic environment coupled with a comfortable boarding house offers the perfect place to soak up all that Oxford has to offer.

Programme Option 1:

The Oxford English Football Programme

Programme overview:

The Oxford English Football Programme with full-board in modern student residence is designed to provide a unique and professional experience to any aspiring footballers wishing to join us in the UK.

Programme has been successfully delivered in the UK and internationally and provides a fantastic balance between Football Skills Development, English Language and Cultural/Sporting Excursions. The programme is delivered at Oxford City Football Club -founded in 1882. Based in the City of Oxford, Oxford City FC has a rich tradition within the City and is known for its historical relationship with oxford University. The England 1966 World Cup winning captain, Bobby Moore was once the manager of Oxford City FC and was assisted by former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp.

Oxford City FC stadium benefits from a state-of-the-art FIFA quality Pro 3G pitch, a full size 3G training pitch and excellent amenities.

Contents of the Programme:

Part 1: High quality football coaching

UEFA A Licenced Coaches

UEFA B Licenced Coaches

Structured training programme 15hrs per week including training & match play Technical/Tactical practices

Match opportunities

All participants will receive player review and action plan.

Part 2: English football terminology

Class based session to learn:

English football terminology

Structure of the game in the UK

Tactical / Technical / Psychological & Social considerations of the game.

England DNA: These sessions involve developing strategies within games, goal setting and team building sessions.

Part 3: English language lessons

Our General English teaching is carefully designed to help you enhance your level of English language and with proof of your progress. We measure your language skills at the start of your English course and at the completion of your course - includes a placement test, progress test and graduation test.

Taught in the classroom and focused on communicating clearly in everyday English. The course will add further value to your studies in English Football terminology. You will improve: Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing.

There are two further options:

A. English language skills in: Current Affairs, Modern Culture, Global Issues, History & Architecture, Literature, Interview and Resume writing.

B. Intensive English language skills focused on: Vocabulary, Grammar, Pronunciation, English for Business, Public Speaking, Presentation Skills, Negotiations, Critical Thinking, Using English in Research, Academic Writing, Politics & Society, Music, Health & Fitness.

Part 4: Talks

Football Manager – what to look for in a player; teamwork; individual skills Psychologist – mental health and the effect on your performance

Physiotherapist – importance of effective training for your body Referee – the rules of the game (do not shoot the messenger!)

Medics – treatments and recuperation

Programme Option 2: English Language & Public Speaking Summer Course

for students aged 15-17 y.o

Improve your English Language proficiency and explore a creative side of you via Debate and Public Speaking workshops as a part of your Summer Course in Oxford!

Course overview

The course is aimed to improve your general English Language proficiency in the areas of listening, writing, reading and speaking in addition to exploring the art of debating and public speaking with our experienced tutors in the field.

The course will be delivered by fluent and native English speakers via variety of in-class exercises, after-class activities and additional debate and public speaking workshops where students will have an opportunity to learn about the British Parliamentary debate system and gain confidence in public speaking by learning how to structure, substantiate and deliver an effective and powerful argument.

The students’ progress will be measured at the end of each week by students undertaking a supervised in-class English test and a series of short ‘mock’ debates on a wide range of topics surrounding current affairs and environment.

Entry requirements

Applicants must meet a minimum of level B1 of English Language proficiency requirement to enrol on a course.

Boarding

We know how important it is for students to feel safe and comfortable when staying away from home. That is why our modern and purpose built accommodation is the perfect place for students to relax and unwind during their time with us. 

Cherwell House includes 55 en-suite rooms, laundry facilities, dining and common room and has fast Wi-Fi throughout. Students can enjoy home-cooked food including hot breakfasts and a three-course meal each evening. There is also a fridge available to keep those late-night snacks!

Activities

The College is situated in the heart of Oxford - one of the most vibrant, academic and historical cities in the world. Students will receive tours of the Oxford University Colleges and enjoy some of the exciting activities that the city has to offer.

Fees

Course fee: £3,300 – inclusive of tuition, accommodation, meals and activities. Please note that transport to and from an airport is arranged separately at an extra cost.

Programme Option 3: Pre-sessional (I)GCSE / A-level courses  

Duration: 1, 2 or 3-week courses

August 2020

Age groups: 14 - 15 y.o & 16 - 17 y.o

For those who have gained an entry for an (I)GCSE or A-level programmes from September and wish to stay ahead of their peers, we offer one to three-week pre-(I)GCSE / A-level courses.

Overview of the programme 

Students will have an opportunity to prepare for the start of the academic year by reviewing the syllabus and topics for their chosen subjects of study. The course will consist of 15 hrs of individual or 30 hrs of group tuition per week.

The programme includes exclusive tours around the colleges of Oxford University which will enable participants to enjoy the unique atmosphere of Oxford, and to immerse themselves in its lavish and famous academic history.

Each week will include subject based seminars and afternoon enrichment activities, making the most of all that Oxford has to offer during the summer period. During the week students will also receive talks on university applications and career advice. Our courses are taught by subject experts who have in-depth knowledge of the UK education system and what is required to get the top grades in all major exam boards for both (I)GCSE and A-level.
