Summer Courses 2021

SUMMER IN OXFORD

We offer a range of summer courses which are designed to help students prepare for the next stage of their education, whether this means familiarising themselves with the British education system, improving English language proficiency, starting GCSEs or A-Levels, or preparing to go on to university. Our academic environment coupled with a comfortable boarding house offers the perfect place to soak up all that Oxford has to offer.

Online and in-person weekly courses are available.

Revision & Exam Preparation (A-Level & GCSE)

This year, as last, students are having to face the anxiety of assessments and have had to study in unfamiliar, uncertain situations, and while some students have thrived, others have become demotivated and sometimes disoriented, this impacting the results they could have achieved were it not for the pandemic. Other students have not been able to complete their syllabus due to Covid 19 and have therefore had to postpone their exams until this autumn or even the summer of 2022.

In the past Cherwell College have accommodated students where their schools are happy to book them for exams in the autumn but cannot teach them due to a new intake of students and lack of teacher resources.

Cherwell College has also absorbed a significant number of students to prepare them for examination retakes in previous years. As a bespoke college offering one-to-one tuition, the College can offer intensive preparation leading up to the autumn exams.

A standard course is based on 15 hours of individual tuition (or 30 hours of group tutorials) per week – a variation from the standard course structure is possible and a programme can be developed for the individual student, depending on their specific needs.

Booster Courses

Ideal for those students needing a “short-burst” of revision or introduction to the subject content (for students in Year 10 moving to Year 11 or Year 12 moving to Year 13 from September).

Summer is also an ideal time for students to understand how the UCAS system works or obtain advice and guidance on university choices and personal statement. This is also a good time to prepare for students wishing to take up medicine, veterinarian studies or dentistry or study at a university in the USA. We offer courses on TSA (Thinking Skills Assessment), UCAT (UK Clinical Aptitude Test), HAT (History) MAT (Mathematics) and SAT (recognised test for Ivy League universities). We can also offer IELTS preparation courses for international students.

Why Cherwell?

Being an examination centre for all UK-registered exam boards, we are also able to evaluate the student and discern whether a change of board to one which may suit their particular strengths will enable them to attain the grades they need.

No child is the same and we believe that a tutorial system allows students to excel where they need extra help or individual attention.
