About Cherwell College

Founded in 1972, Cherwell College Oxford is a full-time tutorial college with over 150 students annually. Supported by individual tutorials and small group seminars our students achieved higher academic level in comparison with classic group sessions:

Programmes available

Pre A-level: AS & A2 (pre-sessional A-level) – designed for students aged between 15 and 19 years, who are planning to study an A-level programme in the UK. Read more.

Pre (I)GCSE (pre-sessional (I)GCSE) – designed for students aged between 13 and 15 years who are planning to study GCSE and IGCSE programmes in the UK. Read more.

Pre A-level (AS and A2)

This programme is designed for students between 15-19 years old who are ebarking on, or continuing with, A-level studies in the UK. The programme familiarises students with A-level subject material and offers guidance on choosing A-level subjects. In addition, the programme aims to teach students the necessary skills and techniques, so as to develop their confidence for further studies and public exams. 

We also offer bespoke UCAS to all A2 students. This includes expert advice on the UCAS process, personal statements and university choices.

In addition to this, all students on our pre GCSE programme will take part in our enrichment activities - these can include theatre, art, day trips and sport.

Fee: £1375 per week.*

Pre GCSE and IGCSE

This programme is designed for students between 13-15 years old who are embarking on, or continuing with, GCSE or IGCSE studies in the UK. The programme is particularly useful for those students who require additional subject support or familiarization with the course material. In addition, the programme aims to teach students the necessary skills and techniques, so as to develop their confidence for further studies and public exams. 

We offer programmes to support students doing GCSE and IGCSE courses.

In addition to this, all students on our pre A-level programme will take part in our enrichment activities - these can include theatre, art, day trips and sport.

Fee: £1375 per week.*

General English

This is a traditional summer programme for students who are coming to the UK to improve their English language, as well as gain an insight into the British education system.

Our General English programme is usually taught in groups of up to 8 students.

The programme is a combination of interactive group tutorials, weekly excursions and tours around Oxford as well as other cities. This forms part of our enrichment programme in which all students take part. Other activites include theatre, art, day trips and sport.

Fee: £850 per week, including transfers.*

English through Art Summer Programme

Our last English through Art Summer Programme was dedicated to William Shakespeare and his masterpieces. It included classical Art sessions combined with excursions to the Ashmolean Museum, where our students enjoyed the best examples of English painting, as well and works by French impressionists. As part of the programme, students also visited the National Portrait Gallery in London. At the end of the course, the students prepared individual presentations on the work they created.

In addition to this, all students on our English through Art Programme will take part in our enrichment activities - these can include theatre, art, day trips and sport.

Art Summer Programme

Our Art Summer programme is designed to get the creative juices flowing! Hosted mainly in our dedicated Art Studio at Cantay House, we are able to offer courses in Art and Photography. Not only will our students feel inspired by our excellent and highly experienced teachers, but by the artistic and historic atmosphere of Oxford city centre.

In addition to this, all students on our Art Programme will take part in our enrichment activities - these can include theatre, art, day trips and sport.

Drama Summer Programme - with English through Drama

Our Drama Summer Programme attracts students from all over the globe, who come to perform and develop their abilities on the stage.

Especially good for those who want to practice their spoken English, Cherwell College students study and perform time-honoured plays in an intensive week of drama lessons and theatre visits.

In addition to this, all students on our Drama Programme will take part in our enrichment activities - these can include theatre, art, day trips and sport.

Oxbridge Preparation

Our Oxbridge programmes are designed to equip high-achieving and aspirational students with the tools they need to succeed in intensive academic environments (including interviews, entrance tests, tutorials).

In addition to this, all students on our Oxbridge Preparation programme will take part in our enrichment activities - these can include theatre, art, day trips and sport.

Fee: £1375 per week.*

Duration

Our summer courses last 1 - 4 weeks.

Accommodation

Accommodation and meals provided in the College’s brand-new students’ residence, Cherwell House, which comprises of en-suite single accommodation in the heart of Oxford.

Pre-Entrance Assessment

For students and parents who plan to continue their academic education in the UK, we provide a splendid opportunity to sit entrance assessment on core subjects (English and Maths) and can arrange a trial interview at the College.

The parents are also invited to visit the College and for those interested we can arrange individual tuition in English.
