Oxford Union Debating
Each month our students get a priviledged insight into Oxford University debating. The evening starts with a workshop hosted by students from the university followed by a debate.
On some evenings, students attend professorial talks arranged internally or externally. In this, Cherwell College takes full advantage of its unique connection to the Oxford Union, the prestigious debating society associated with the
University of Oxford; we attend debates at the Union, as well as host Debating Workshops run by our partners at the Oxford Union. To read more about recent lectures and debates, please see our 'News' section.
A chance to pursue academic interests
There is also a weekly, student-based Science Club, in which students are encouraged to research presentations
that correspond to their own interests, and then deliver them to their peers.
The college actively participates in additional, national educational challenges including the United Kingdom Maths Challenge and CIFE Quiz.
PSHE – our commitment to students’ personal growth.
Weekly PSHE lessons (Personal, Social and Health Education) enable our students to discuss current, and often contentious, issues with which they are confronted as part of everyday life. These lessons also aim to make our students as tolerant and well-rounded as possible.
Here are the recent issues of our publication The Cherwell Gazette, which give a good picture of life at Cherwell both in and out of the classroom. Both will open in new windows, or right-click to download the PDF.
