What is it like studying, for GCSEs at the Cherwell College?

All students must study the core curriculum of Mathematics, English and a Science - the subjects universally required by employers and universities. Beyond these, it is up to you.

At the College while some students do take 10 or 11 GCSEs with us, we prefer to concentrate on five or six subjects, focusing on quality of performance and emphasising the relevance of GCSE study for development at A-level and beyond. Concentration on a smaller number of subjects allows for GCSE preparation over just one year of study. Focus on a smaller number of subjects can also be ideal for any students wishing to retake GCSEs to ensure successful progress to sixth form studies.

Additional GCSE subjects can be drawn from the entire range available. Students at Cherwell often get a real insight into A-level studies as options for GCSE include Economics, Business Studies, Media Studies, Photography, Electronics and many more.

GCSE students at Cherwell have their own Director of Studies, with whom they register each day and who is available to help with general progress, timetabling, and the completion of private study. The Director of Studies will also, alongside the sixth form Directors of Studies, advise GCSE students throughout the year on progression into AS studies.
