How does a tutorial work?

Students attend tutorials individually. With the undivided attention of a tutor, you have the opportunity to focus on your distinct interests within a subject and develop the skills you need with teaching geared to how you learn best.

The atmosphere of a tutorial is mature and academically stimulating, but it is also friendly and quite informal. When you can choose what subjects you want to study, and what topics within the syllabus/specification you would like to study, learning becomes much more fun.

Tutors supervise work closely, but also discreetly - sometimes you may need quite a lot of support, at other times you will have the confidence to take a topic on for yourself.

Time alone with your tutor is balanced by the Department Meetings where seminar sessions provide discussion and review of material within a group environment. Seminars provide students to exchange ideas, share problems, and find solutions much as in the best moments of classroom teaching.
