Cherwell has a dedicated member of staff who organises sports and social activities to allow students to balance their academic studies with recreation. Many students arriving at Cherwell wish to maintain a high-level of commitment to sport, while others have merely a passing interest. Students of any level are welcomed and can be accommodated. Our proximity to the centre of a major city means that Cherwell students have the opportunity to access a full-range of excellent sporting facilities, including sports centres and swimming pools, university facilities and a myriad of local clubs that range from Rowing to Scuba Diving, Chess to Athletics.
A regular fixture in the sporting calendar is the termly Staff vs. Student soccer match, held at the University's astroturf pitches.
Sport is not the only outlet for students' excess energies and Cherwell has a very active social calendar for organised group events, including Quiz Nights, Paintball, Karting and trips to Alton Towers. The student body is encouraged to get actively involved in the planning and organisation of activities, to foster a sense of community and maintain their quality and variety of life. The social scene is punctuated by termly parties held at a wide range of venues across Oxford that afford the opportunity for students and staff to meet socially.
Students are invited to contribute towards the Cherwellian, a monthly publication that contains information about college events, student achievements and articles written by students and staff on subjects of their choosing.
