What is the teaching environment like?

Cherwell College occupies some of the most historic buildings in central Oxford - Greyfriars situated in the very heart of the university city and Manor Parks, in Norham Manor, that overlooks the university parks.

Greyfriars, originally belonging to the Fransiscan Monks (who, incidentally, were influential in the foundation of the university) comprises two buildings; the Master's Lodgings and Cloisters, each being separated by an open courtyard.

The Master's Lodgings is the administrative centre for the college and Cloisters is one of the three main teaching buildings with facilities that include teaching and tutorial rooms and the science laboratory. A number of Heads of Department teach here.

Adjacent to the college buildings at Greyfriars is the Friary Centre, an extremely large and attractive building set in its own gardens offering students at Cherwell an enviably peaceful atmosphere within a stone's throw of the city centre. The Friary Centre houses the main college library with private study and Internet facilities, lecture theatre, tutorial rooms, classrooms and the 'Le Bistro' cafeteria and tuck shop.

Nearby, in Norham Gardens, overlooking the University Parks is our Manor Parks building, which is located only two minutes walk from four of Cherwell's Halls of Residence, making it very accessible and convenient for around one hundred Cherwell students who live in the area. The main building provides accommodation for the Theatre stage and studio (for A-level Theatre Studies, Drama and Music students), dedicated space for Music Technology, Film Studies and Media Studies, the Craft, Design and Technology (CDT) workshop, technical, engineering and computer aided design room, darkroom (for A-level Photography), private study room, ten further classrooms and the 'Conservatory' for reading and relaxation.
